Professor Ayodele Adeyinka ATOWOJU, PhD.
Professor of BIBLICAL STUDIES (NEW TESTAMENT), PASTORAL THEOLOGY AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION, Ayodele Adeyinka ATOWOJU is a high achiever with a proven track record in the fields of theology and academia. Known for exceptional interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, he is highly resourceful and personable. He has served in various capacities as Priest, Academic, Theologian, and Educator with multiple recognitions for outstanding performance. He has consistently showcased a commitment to excellence and industry.
His academic credentials are impressive, holding a B.A. (Hons) in 1997, M.A. in 2000, and Ph.D. 2009, in Religious Studies, with a specialization in New Testament from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has over 20 years of experience teaching a variety of courses, including Biblical Studies, New Testament Theology, and Pastoral Theology, across Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate levels. With extensive knowledge in Greek and Hebrew Exegesis, he has authored more than 75 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book series, along with nine published books on topics such as New Testament, Christian Worship, and Pastoral Theology. He has also developed a range of learning aids that reflect contemporary scholarship, including audio-visual materials, effectively utilizing learning technologies such as Zoom, Teams, and PowerPoint, while leveraging the digital humanities to enhance student learning.
He has successfully supervised the theses of over 25 PhD candidates, more than 60 Master’s students, and over 30 Undergraduates, further demonstrating his commitment to student development. He has been instrumental in pioneering the Religious Studies Department at three institutions of higher learning in Nigeria, contributing to the development of both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.
In addition to his academic roles, he has served as the Head of Department of Religious Studies, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Nigeria, Department of Religious and Intercultural Studies, Lead City University, Ibadan and the Acting Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta. The Head, faculty of Theology, Rudolf Kwanne University, Liberia, Dean, College of Arts, Wesley University, Ondo, Nigeria and currently Ven. Professor Ayodele A. Atowoju is the Rector Ezekiel College of Theology. Ujoelen, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria.
He is actively involved in the pastoral formation, training, and mentoring of clergy in seminaries, a role he has been dedicated to for over two decades. He was appointed a member of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Theological Accreditation and Regulatory Board in April, 2024. He is a member of several reputable academic and theological associations, many of which he functions as a principal officer.
He has ministered and served in several interdenominational and intercultural congregations, including Chapel of the Resurrection University of Ibadan, Chapel of Peace and Joy, Lead City University, Ibadan; All Saints Church, Jericho, Ibadan and Saint Michael’s in the Hamlet, Liverpool, United Kingdom (1999). He is currently an active member of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Northampton, United Kingdom. In the course of his ministry, he has had the privilege of preaching, leading revivals and conducting evangelistic outreaches in both Mainline and New Generational Churches, contributing to the holistic and pragmatic development of the institution across spiritual, academic, moral, infrastructural, economic, and social fronts.
